Virtual Museum, The óther contemporary art - p 45

During the course of history the surrounding of men changed drastically. Originally nature and it's cultivation were de most common sight, but another fenomenon took over this position: the dwelling of men. First came some houses, castles and ruins in the nature landscape, as we can see in baroque and romantic landsapes. But houses are growing faster then mushrooms, filling landscapes with agglomerates. The dwelling of men is a beloved subject to painters. Where houses are stacked in towers or filling long streets or valleys, the paintings belong to the chapter "cityscapes". Where a house is painted more closely, or some houses in nature, they belong here. From the smallest houses to the biggest castles and palaces, seen by artists, that is the subject for this chapter.
