Virtual Museum, The óther contemporary art - p 37

Surrealism contains a lot of styles. It all started completely abstract, in the form of "Automatic writing". In the florescence there were abstract (such as Miro, Picasso, Tanguy) as well as figurative painters (Dali, Magritte, Ernst...). To Magritte surrealism was the combination of objects witch normally doesn't have any connections (as for instance half carrot, half bottle, or half fish, half woman). He also made use of associations, for instance the writing of words on the canvas. Surrealism always had a link to the unconscious in some way. Therefore the world of our dreams is often a source of inspiration to them. Surrealism can also be the compositon of figurative elements, as we show on this page. Surrealism, fantastic art, fantasy: they overlap each other but they are not really the same. These styles are still alife among artists, as an infinite theme and an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
