Interior of the Saint Laurence church. For the project of this church (when the former church was regarded as being too small) a competition was held.
The winnar was the architect
Huych (1932 - 33), who designed the church in a mixture of art deco and neo-Byzantine style.
Tthe Saint Laurence church has an architecture with a vision. Many symbols where used, for instance the double pillars with the four evangelists.
However, what's lacking is the paint. This work gives a good idea how the church would look like if the walls where painted.
But there is no money for this. Ashame, this church would attract tourists from the whole world and the costs could be recovered.
The stained glass windows and mosaics which are present, are gifts. The mosaics are beautiful, composed with cubes of stone, glass or gold, which gifs a special effect when moving.
