The palace of Veitshöchheim was the Summer residence of the prince-bishops of Würzburg until 1802. The palace gardens belong to the most important rococo gardens of Germany.
From 1702 the former hunting start was extended to a sculpture garden with terraces and ponds.
From 1749 to 1753 the gardens where converted by Carl Philipp von Greiffenclau to rococo gardens, with complex water works, garden pavillions and sculpture cycli.
The over 200 sand stone sculptures are made by the court sculptors Ferdinand Tietz and Johann Peter Wagner.
Never we did found so many musician sculptures as on this place, with the mandolin as favorite.
